Artist Statement

The first documented tarot packs were recorded between 1440 and 1450 in Milan, Ferrara, Florence and Bologna. Each card in the tarot deck represents a theme of the human condition, divided into the 78 cards that shape the whole experience spectrum of what it means to be human.

My illustrations are influenced by blackwork tattooers and linocut printworkers from the likes of engraver Kaoru Kawano (1916-1965) and tattooist Jack Ankersen.

Tarot is a map, providing us imagery and symbolism to guide us beyond the ego into the seeker on the quest for truth. It is often confronting and sometimes downright ruthless.
